The Sketchbook Project 2012

I just received my sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project 2012 today!

Last year, 28,839 artists from 94 countries signed up to participate in The Sketchbook Project 2011 but just under 10,000 sketchbooks were returned completed to Art House.  I was one of the 18,000+ people who didn’t return the sketchbook and I’m determined to finish it this time for the 2012 tour.

When you purchase a sketchbook, you have to select a theme.  The theme I chose is “This is a Sketchbook”.

Last year, many artists complained about the quality of the sketchbook paper and Art House listened!  Art House collaborated with Scout Books to create better-quality, custom-designed sketchbooks for 2011.

This year’s official Sketchbook Project book is made from high quality 100% recycled paper milled in the Pacific Northwest, printed with vegetable-based inks and produced with renewable energy. We’ve also improved the weight and texture of the paper, enhanced the strength of the cover and selected wire saddle stitching so that each book is easier to rebind if necessary. We’re proud to say that these are the best books we’ve ever been able to offer for the Sketchbook Project – thanks to feedback from hundreds of members of the Art House community.

I haven’t been drawing or painting much since graduating from college years ago.  It will be fun just doodling random stuff in my sketchbook.  Oh, and what’s more exciting is that The Sketchbook Project is going global in 2012!  They will be exhibiting thousands of artists’ sketchbooks in the United States, England, Australia, and Canada.

If interested, you have until October 31, 2011 to sign up for the 2012 tour!

Time for Vacation

I wanted to sleep in today but my eyes opened around 8a.m. and I couldn’t fall back asleep.  I think I’m just too excited about my vacation.  This is my very first time having a week-long vacation since I started working at the age of 16 or 17.

I’ve been always working since I had my very first part-time job—I never took breaks between jobs.  All employees at the company I work for got to enjoy a week off when the company closed for a week after Christmas but I don’t count that as a vacation.

I found a nice hotel room in San Diego, CA at a great price from HauteLook.  The hotel is right next to a beach and very close to two of my favorite places—Sea World and San Diego Zoo.

I will really miss my dog, Dax, while enjoying a relaxing vacation in San Diego.  I’m sure Dax will have a lot of fun playing with his friends at PetSmart PetsHotel.
